{"id":23640,"date":"2026-07-11T19:00:04","date_gmt":"2026-07-11T23:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.woodsworthcoop.ca\/?p=23640"},"modified":"2026-07-13T14:49:24","modified_gmt":"2026-07-13T18:49:24","slug":"topping-up-last-months-housing-charge-and-maintenance-deposits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.woodsworthcoop.ca\/index.php\/topping-up-last-months-housing-charge-and-maintenance-deposits\/","title":{"rendered":"Topping up last month&#8217;s housing charge and maintenance deposits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Woodsworth members voted to increase our housing charges at the budget general members&#8217; meeting on May 12, 2026.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Occupancy Bylaw says:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Article 3.5 (d) Adjusting the Last Month\u2019s Housing Charge Deposit (and Maintenance Deposit) when housing charges change<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>If members pay the full monthly housing charges<\/strong>, the amount of the <strong>last month\u2019s housing charge deposit<\/strong> will be adjusted to be equal to his or her new housing charge.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <strong>maintenance deposit<\/strong> will be adjusted to be equal to 50% of the last month\u2019s housing charge deposit.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>If members receive housing charge subsidy<\/strong>, the amount of the maintenance deposit will be adjusted annually after the annual review of household income and composition. Members must pay the amount of any increase on a date set by the board of directors. If there is a reduction, members will get a credit on future charges.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>How to Calculate the Top-Up Amount for Your Maintenance Deposit and Last Month\u2019s Housing Charge (Market Rent)<\/h5>\n<p>\u2013 Find the difference between the new monthly housing charge for your unit and last year\u2019s monthly housing charge, including cable and tv, but not parking.<\/p>\n<p><em>This increase is usually listed in the housing charges table of the budget members&#8217; meeting package.<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\n\u2013 Multiply the increase by 1.5.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 The result is the one-time top-up amount you owe Woodsworth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Last year\u2019s housing charge: $1,798 \/ month &#8211; including cable &amp; TV<br \/>\nNew housing charge: $1,894\/ month &#8211; including cable &amp; TV<br \/>\nIncrease: $1,894\u2212 $1,798 = $96.<br \/>\nOne-time top-up: $96\u00d7 1.5 = $144<br \/>\nOne-time top-up amount: $144<\/p>\n<h5>Reminder: our fiscal year starts August 1.<\/h5>\n<p>That&#8217;s when housing charges change and the top-up is due.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Woodsworth members voted to increase our housing charges at the budget general members&#8217; meeting on May 12, 2026.
