{"id":18676,"date":"2025-06-26T10:44:32","date_gmt":"2025-06-26T14:44:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.woodsworthcoop.ca\/?p=18676"},"modified":"2026-08-04T19:32:41","modified_gmt":"2026-08-04T23:32:41","slug":"relocation-and-the-internal-waiting-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.woodsworthcoop.ca\/index.php\/relocation-and-the-internal-waiting-list\/","title":{"rendered":"Relocation, the internal waiting list and unit allocation"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Summary<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"font-size: 19px; font-style: italic;\">If you are a Woodsworth member currently living in the co-op and wish to move to a different unit:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Apartments and townhouses are allocated based on waiting lists.<\/li>\n<li>Complete the <b>Internal Relocation Form<\/b> (available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.woodsworthcoop.ca\/index.php\/co-op-forms\/\"><b>online<\/b><\/a> or in the Photocopy Room).<\/li>\n<li>Management is responsible for maintaining the lists and making offers based on the lists and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.woodsworthcoop.ca\/index.php\/by-laws\/membership-by-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Membership Bylaw<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.woodsworthcoop.ca\/index.php\/by-laws\/occupancy-bylaw-82\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Occupancy Bylaw<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>You may check the <b>internal waiting list<\/b> at any time (copy room) or speak with <b>Management<\/b>, who oversees waiting lists and unit allocations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>1. Qualifications for a unit in Woodsworth<\/h3>\n<p>(Member Approval and Unit Allocation (Membership Bylaw), Article 4.2)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">(a) The co-operative must be satisfied that the household will meet the obligations to pay the monthly charges to the co-operative in accordance with the bylaws and their occupancy agreement. The co-operative will take into account whether or not the household qualifies for a subsidy in the new unit if a subsidy is available. See also Article 5.1.2 (c) Household in arrears.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">(b) The household must meet occupancy standards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">(c) The households must qualify based on Articles 5 (Internal) or 6 (External).<\/p>\n<h3>2. \u00a0 Types of waiting lists<\/h3>\n<p>Internal waiting list for unit allocation &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.woodsworthcoop.ca\/index.php\/by-laws\/membership-by-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Membership Bylaw<\/a>, Article 5.<\/p>\n<p>External waiting list for unit allocation &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.woodsworthcoop.ca\/index.php\/by-laws\/membership-by-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Membership Bylaw<\/a>, Article 6.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>3. \u00a0 Who can join the Internal Waiting List?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p2\">The Internal Waiting List is made up of members or households who live in the co-operative who are:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">(a) Want or need to move to a different unit, or<br \/>\n(b) Are required to transfer under the co-operative&#8217;s Bylaws or any requirements of a rent-geared-to-income program or the Occupancy Bylaw, or<br \/>\n(c) Are former members who have been approved as returning members.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Important note: \u00a0<\/strong>If you move out of the co-op, you lose your membership. Former members <strong>cannot<\/strong> join the Internal Waiting List unless they have been formally approved as returning members.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Not a Woodsworth member?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>\u2192 See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.woodsworthcoop.ca\/index.php\/external-waiting-lists-and-moving-nto-woodsworth\/\">External waiting lists and moving into Woodsworth<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><b>4. Additional eligibility restrictions<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>(Membership Bylaw, Article 5.1.2)<\/p>\n<p>To join or remain on the internal waiting list, members must meet <strong>all<\/strong> of the following:<\/p>\n<h5><b>Minimum residency<\/b><\/h5>\n<p>Members must have lived in their unit for <strong>at least 2 years<\/strong> before applying. The Board may approve exceptions.<\/p>\n<h5><b>New members who joined as long-term guests or Turning 16&#8217;s<\/b><\/h5>\n<p>These new members must be members for <strong>2 years before joining the internal waiting list<\/strong>. Time before becoming a member does not count.<\/p>\n<h5><b>Financial requirements<\/b><\/h5>\n<p>Applicants must demonstrate financial responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>Verifiable proof of income is required.<\/p>\n<h5><b>Arrears<\/b><\/h5>\n<p>Households in arrears may not apply or transfer units.<\/p>\n<p>Exception: required rent-geared-to-income (RGI) moves.<\/p>\n<h5><b>Occupancy rules<\/b><\/h5>\n<p>Members may apply only for units they qualify for based on occupancy standards.<\/p>\n<p>After moving, households must meet occupancy standards for three years. Otherwise, they are considered over-housed and must move to a smaller unit to meet occupancy standards. \u00a0See Occupancy Bylaw, Article 9.4<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">All prospective occupants of the household must be listed on the relocation request and waiting list.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>5. Choosing unit preferences<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>You may have requests up to <strong>two unit types<\/strong> at a time.<\/p>\n<p>Preferences may include:<br \/>\nUnit type<br \/>\nStreet or floor<br \/>\nSpecific unit(s)<\/p>\n<p><b>Tip<\/b>: Narrow preferences (for example, a specific floor or street) do <strong>not lower your position on the list<\/strong>, but may delay offers. You will only be offered units that match your stated preferences.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Adding preferences <strong>does not give the household any priority for units.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>7. How units are offered<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>When a unit becomes available:<\/p>\n<p>Management offers it to the first qualified applicant based on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Waiting list position, and<\/li>\n<li>Stated preferences<\/li>\n<li>Offers alternate between the <strong>internal and external waiting lists<\/strong>.Exceptions apply for:<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.woodsworthcoop.ca\/index.php\/woodsworths-criteria-guideline-for-priority-moves\/\">Priority needs<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.woodsworthcoop.ca\/index.php\/wheelchair-adapted-units-membership-bylaw\/\">Wheelchair-adapted units<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>For details, see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.woodsworthcoop.ca\/index.php\/alternating-between-internal-and-external-waiting-lists-unit-allocation\/\">Alternating between internal and external waiting lists \u2013 unit allocation<\/a>.<\/h5>\n<h3><strong>8. Offers, refusals and contact rules<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The co-op will try to contact you <strong>within 3 business days.<br \/>\n<\/strong>You have <strong>3 business days<\/strong> to respond.<br \/>\nNo response counts as a refusal.<br \/>\nAfter <strong>3 refusals<\/strong>, you are moved to the <strong>bottom of the internal waiting list.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h5><strong>Important notes:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>One refusal is counted <strong>per offer<\/strong>, not per preference.<\/p>\n<p>The number of preferences you list <strong>does not<\/strong> affect refusal counts and does not give any priority when a match for your preferences comes up.<\/p>\n<h3><strong> 9. \u00a0Move-in timelines for internal relocations<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>After accepting an offer, you will receive<strong> at least 30 days<\/strong> to move into the unit.<\/p>\n<p>You must move on the specified date.<\/p>\n<p>Once you accept a unit, you are <strong>removed from all other waiting lists<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>10. \u00a0After you accept a unit:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Your household is <strong>removed from<\/strong> <strong>all waiting lists<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Members in your unit must sign a new <strong>Occupancy Agreement<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>You will receive <strong>at least 30 days\u2019 notice<\/strong> for an internal relocation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>External moves follow different timelines. \u00a0<\/strong>They are given more time to move in. If the unit is ready earlier, the household should move in sooner if it won\u2019t cause them financial loss. (See Membership Bylaw, Article 6.2.8.)<\/p>\n<p>The household must pay or update the first and last month\u2019s <strong>housing charges<\/strong> and a <strong>maintenance deposit<\/strong> equal to half of the last month\u2019s charge. If you receive a subsidy, different rules apply. Refer to Occupancy Bylaw, Article 3.5.<\/p>\n<p>You must vacate your current unit and move into the new one on the <strong>specified date<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>You must live in your new unit for at least two years before rejoining the waiting list. In some cases, the Board may make an exception to the <strong>residency requirements.<\/strong> If you need an accommodation for accessibility reasons, Woodsworth has a policy in place to support you.<\/p>\n<p>Your household must <strong>continue to qualify<\/strong> for the unit size based on the occupancy standards for 3 years.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"175\" data-end=\"187\"><strong>11.
